Christmas an Appendix and the New Year

Well I am just sitting in Patrick's hospital room waiting for him to come up from recovery and thought it would be a good time to blog. I was going to start with Christmas but since I am in the hospital I guess I will start with Patrick instead. Well Last night around 6ish Patrick started having stomach cramps and neither of us thought anything about it. Then this morning things were getting worse so he tried to lay down and take a nap and he decided we needed to go to the Emergency Room I was really hoping that he was blowing it out of proportion but come to find out his appendix was swollen and "jumping" which is a term I haven't heard a doctor use before. I guess he had a stone in it that was clogging up the works so the doc comes in tells us all this and shortly after they are wheeling him up to the OR. they did it Laproscopically or however you spell it. so three little incisions later he has one less part. At least it's not an important one :) so now I am sitting in the room and they tell me it might be another hour, but at least I have my very own room and bathroom and stuff.

Now, on to Christmas since I haven't seen him yet. well I had a total of I think 8 Christmas parties woo it was quite busy. I had a great time and Gabe's favorite toy was can you guess it....a box...lol. Isn't that how it normally goes? Patrick Proposed on Christmas :) Best Gift Ever! Ok well here are some pics for you.

Grandpa Kite

Kenneth E. Kite
Kenneth Eugene Kite of Columbia died Tuesday, Dec 6, 2011. He was 83.

Born on May 7, 1928, Mr. Kite led an adventurous life full of travel, said Jane Stuart, his oldest daughter.

"We always say he had gypsy blood in him," she said. "He was the independent type."

Mr. Kite's wanderlust started early. The fifth of six children, he quit school and left his home in Woodlandville at age 12 to work on a neighbor's farm for 25 cents a day.

Two years later, he bought a bicycle. "He got on that bicycle, rode it to Columbia, and never went back," Stuart said.

He met Martha Sue Nichols in the summer of 1944, while he was working at the drive-in at Ernie's Barbeque, which used to operate on South Ninth Street. She was on a date with another boy, but that didn't stop Mr. Kite from flirting. They were married soon after, on March 3, 1945.

Their wedding day was full of bad omens, Stuart said, laughing.

They had to ford the floodwaters of Perche Creek in a 1931 Model A Ford, blew out a tire, then lost the spare when the lug nuts fell off. An attendant at a nearby gas station sent them across the road to a junkyard to dig out enough lug nuts to make it to the Booneville Courthouse. But the greatest indignity of all was that Mr. Kite had to be accompanied by his mother because, unlike his bride, he was not yet 18.

"It worked out though," Stuart said. "They were married 66 years."

After getting married, the couple left the city and spent two years as sharecroppers on Shanklin Farm outside Columbia. The day before she was born, Stuart said, her mother was in the cornfield, pulling ears off the lowest part of each corn stalk, a process called "shucking the down rows."

It was after Stuart and her younger sister, Phyllis Ann Leach, were born that their father's gypsy blood started stirring again. For years, they moved around the West, lugging the family's horses in an old trailer while Mr. Kite worked as a short-order cook at movie drive-ins in California, Idaho and Washington.

The Kites returned to Columbia in 1959, bought his old place of employment, Ernie's (then Long's Barbeque), and started Kenny and Sue's Barbeque, which they ran for a couple years. After a brief move to Kansas to manage the 73 Diner in Leavenworth, Mr. and Mrs. Kite returned to Columbia for good, and Mr. Kite worked construction jobs until he retired in the mid-1980s.

Mr. Kite spent the last years of his life enjoying his five-acre property on the outskirts of Columbia with his wife. There, he was content to watch his grandchildren grow up, ride horses and raise cows, chickens, ducks and donkeys.

"He became a real homebody. Isn't that funny?" Stuart said. "After all that traveling."

He is survived by his wife; four children, Mary Jane Stuart, Phyllis Ann Leach, Rhonda Kay Bias, and Randy Eugene Kite, all of Columbia; one sister, Ruth Samuel of Columbia; eight grandchildren, Tony Stuart, Chris Leach, Wendy Leach, Brittney Scott, Benjamin Kite, Kathryn Kite, Hayden Kite, all of Columbia and George K. Stuart, of Chicago; and four great-grandchildren, Chad Stuart, Russel Leach, Sarah Leach, Gabriel Scott, all of Columbia.

Two infant brothers and two sisters, Ida Lee Pipes and Allene Pipes, died earlier.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Smith Chapel Cemetery, 925 County Road 416, Rocheport, three miles from the farm where Mr. Kite grew up.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

I love you Grandpa

A busy weekend

:So we tested it and Gabe can eat deer :) I am super stoked that we have a beef alternative. It really opens up some options for him.

:I am in the middle of writing a research paper which is less than thrilling but it is due in a week so write I must. It's on Mamtek, woot, not really but they seem to always becoming out with new info so that's good.

:Patrick has been trying to make jerky as fast as I can eat it, I'm winning lol. It's so nice to have someone to cook for me :)

:This four day weekend has been awesome! I have been cleaning pretty much nonstop when we haven't been at someones house eating. We have got a lot done but for some reason with between 3 and 5 of us here at all times we just haven't caught up, ahhhh! I am soooooo sad to know that it is over, I am not ready to go back to work I love family time. :)

Grandpa Kite

Well he seems to have adjusted very well to the nursing home. The nurses are all very nice and bubbly which is very important because he responds so much better that way.

A little less than a week ago he slipped in the hallway and broke his hip and was rushed to the hospital. They had to do surgery but he is doing better now. He is back at the nursing home now, which is great! He didn't like the people at the hospital. He doesn't respond well when you tell him to take his pills or eat or really anything for that matter. I am glad that he is back with people he likes and where he can get therapy for his hip.

He broke a hip last year and one this year maybe now that he has done it twice he will stop. (crossing my fingers)

Glad to say that he is doing better. It has been a crazy week.

Thanksgiving

Well Thanksgiving is tomorrow and we are gonna have a busy weekend. We are headed to the Rutherford family Thanksgiving tomorrow and then on Friday we are going to the Bias one and Saturday is the Kite one. Lots of Family and Lots of Food. Sunday will truly be a day for rest, after all that food my poor body is gonna need it.

Here is a random cute baby to get you in the mood :)

Have a good Turkey Day Everyone!

Random Happenings

School: It is almost time for midterms ick, I have a 10 page paper I have to write, and I guess I otta get started on it if I don't want it to kick my butt.

:We have rearranged Shawn's room again, it is the one room of the house that is always getting switched around but at least this time it is all organized and the TV is plugged in and everything. It is really starting to look like his room and not the office that it was originally.

:Grandpa went into the nursing home yesterday. Everything went smoothly. He is at Parkside Manor in the Aspen unit. We fixed up his bedroom with family pictures and a plac with KENNETH right above his bed. We also put up a coat rack for his coats and hats. Mom called the nurse to check on him last night and she said that he was flirting with the nurses and laughing. So far so good I hope he is happy. :)

:On December 3rd Patrick and I will have been together for a year :) It is completely amazing to me that it has already been that long since found each other. We were both in such a different place then and I am so happy that he came into my life when he did. I honestly feel so blessed, I don't even know how to begin to explain it. I love you baby :D <3

Busy times

:Oh gosh where to start. Well we had the Nichols family reunion which was nice. It is always good to catch up with the family. We had it in Ashland at the park this year which is different because for the last 25 years it has been at the farm, but everybody showed up and we had a good time. It would have been nice though if the rain could have held off.

:Patrick, Shawn, Wesson, Abbi, Lorelai, Gabe, and I all went to Mason's 1st bday party. Which was a great time, and a little hectic with all the kids running around.

Cake
the two 1 year olds
:This is the last week of Marketing and after a whoping 1 week off I am going to start Management. Woo Hoo. I think they should at least give us 2 weeks to recover from finals gosh.

:Wesson turned 2, and we had a party for him. he was very excited by his 4wheeler and his camo. You should have seen him with his camo hat on his four wheeler carrying a catfish it was very funny.

:The same weekend as Wesson's bday everyone was moving. Sean & Cristy moved into a trailer from the apartment complex and Abbi moved into Ashland. Let me tell you it was a crazy week and Claire put on facebook that they are trying to buy a house. I always think its funny when everyone does something all at once, and its all over facebook. Anyway Gabe is excited because he now has his very own room with his daddy where he didn't before and he got a new bed. I think he was excited bout the bed he seems to tell everyone. :)

:There has been a little bit of bed switching going on at my house too. We have gotten Gabe and Wesson's room clean and orginized as well as converted Gabe's bed from a crib to a daybed so he is very happy that he can get out of it whenever he wants. We also gave Shawn a car bed which I think he is pretty excited about. The boy loves cars the movie so what could be more appropriate.

:Saturday was a big day we went to the Pumpkin Festival and Lorelai's bday party. It was a long day but the boys had a great time and then we all went to bed early.

All three boys :)

The Last Few Weeks

Well school has officially started we are almost halfway thru this sesion. There is a little homework out of the book, which my teacher actually wants me to read. Midterm is tomorrow and on top of that we have been working on a group project.

We had a Bias Family Reunion. Which I don't have pictures of yet but we had a great time and Gabe found someone to play with :) There was lots of food like always.
Two weeks ago I went to the hunting cabin with Patrick and they guys, I wasn't sure what to expect but I had a good time.
Home sweet home
I even caught some fish :D

Gabe drew me a picture this morning. I was so amazed when he told me it was a Boat. He is getting so big. It of course went straight up on the fridge :D

Sentences

Lately Gabe has really started to use sentences rather that just  a word or 2.

Here are some of Gabe's newest sentences:

(stops dead in his tracks, and puts hand behind ear) You hear that?
(waves me over) Come on Mommy I show you.
Mommy look what I got!

I just cant get over the fact that he uses sentences and the little hand gestures that go with them just tickle me :)

More stuff thats been going on

I went to see Harry Potter with my mom. I had already seen it but I always go see them with her. We needed a girls date :D

Gabe is 2-1/2 I truly can't believe its already here. My boy is getting so big.

Gabe knows his alphabet. He doesn't like to do it all in a row the other day in the car he was going from O-Z over and over again I thought it was really funny because he doesn't want to do the first half. He can count to 20 with a little bit of help some of the teens confuse him. and he can recognize 1-10 :)

Being Silly

I thought I would just post some pics of Gabe & I being Silly together on Thursday. He likes to play with the camera just as much as his mommy does.

Yea we are silly deal with it. :P

A little catching up to do

Lets jump right into things. On the second I had to go to the dentist and have a filling yes that's right I had a cavity but I will have you know that it was my FIRST ONE like ever, I was disappointed but I guess I did make it 22 years without one so I did pretty good. It is sad however to not be able to say I have never had one. Oh well I guess things change.

This week it dawned on Patrick that deer season is right around the corner. He has been trying to get ready like crazy I guess he thinks he has to get everything ready all at once. So the other day we went to bass pro and got him some new arrows and he got Shawn a new bow, the two of them have been having a great time practicing. Then Patrick decided it would be nice if he could have a new bow. I don't remember who gave him the idea but on to craigslist he goes...anybody out there have a Hoyt bow...yada yada yada, and sure enough he found someone. So last night Patrick, Gabe and I went to Jeff City, we took the Glock and the trade began, a little chit chat and a shoot of an arrow and we are good. So now he has a new toy. Of course the first thing he does is switch over his sights and all the important stuff. No time to waist lol. You would think deer season started tomorrow. Any way first thing this morning hes out shooting his bow. It's so funny how excited he gets but I'm glad hes having a good time.

Today I am at the apartments just like I am about every Tuesday this summer. Its a pretty slow day we just have one apartment that we have to get ready, no big deal.

So here I am sitting at the desk when I realized that school stars back in a week. I am so not ready to go back I have been enjoying my break. I guess I will just have to suck it up. I hope Marketing isn't a hard class I guess we will just have to see what happens the first day to get an idea but I really don't like waiting for things like that.

What is going on in the world of Gabe. Well I bought him some bat man toothbrushes which he seems to love I gave one to Sean and one stays at the house. He is learning how to brush, he isn't very good but he does what he sees me do but heaven forbid if I try to help him brush a different side of his tooth or something. Mr. Independent lives at my house.

I have switched him to pull-ups. I am hoping that being in pull-ups will make it clearer to him that he needs to poop in the potty. I am struggling trying to get him to switch over to the potty it would be nice to switch to Underwear soon. I want potty training to be done. Pretty Please.

I stayed home with Gabe on the 11th. Sean & Cristy went to the Doctor to find out if their baby is a boy or a girl, and let me tell you Gabe wouldn't be thrilled sitting at the hospital all day. Anyway we had a nice day together, just the two of us. Oh and I bought Gabe new shades :D

When Sean & Cristy were done Gabe went over to find out if he was going to have a brother or a sister. Which is still confusing to him I don't think he quite understands the concept of "or" so he tells me brother or sister all the time so now we have to teach him that it is...are your ready? A brother. So sometime around Christmas Gabe is going to have a brother little Logan Matthew. I am excited for Gabe he love babies it's so cute to see him help. He was really good with Lorelai so I am not worried in the slightest. Well except he does love his attention so hopefully it wont be a problem. He is so sweet when he tells me that "Baby in Cristy's belly". I think he is looking forward to it. It is hard to explain a baby just showing up all of the sudden to a two year old.

Oh and I had it pointed out to me that it is weird that I care about the baby, but the fact is that Logan is Gabe's brother and family is what matters and the baby is important to Gabe and that's all that matters to Mama. So there. :P

Oh and last but not least I got a new headboard this week. Well it's new to me anyway. This isn't the greatest picture but with the lighting I had in the office this is what you get.
